Cuireann An Gréasán fáilte roimh an fhógra nach rachfar ar aghaidh leis an bplean páipéar 1 na hArdteiste a bhogadh go dtí an 5ú Bliain.

Iniata leis seo tá na torthaí ó shuirbhé a rinneadh le múinteoirí Gaeilge, a léiríonn go soiléir go bhfuil múinteoirí i gcoinne an phlean a bhí beartaithe: Suirbhé – Páipéar 1 na hArdteiste

Creidimid gur cheart deireadh iomlán a chur leis an bplean seo anois. Ina áit sin creidimid gur cheart polasaí cuimsitheach a fhorbairt do mhúineadh na Gaeilge ón réamhscoil go dtí an tríú leibhéal leis an gcóras do mhúineadh agus d’fhoghlaim na Gaeilge a fheabhsú. Ba cheart dúinn ár n-iarrachtaí a chur isteach le sonraíochtaí nua a dhearadh a fheabhsóidh foghlaim na Gaeilge bunaithe ar an bpolasaí seo.

Idir an dá linn, mar a fheictear sa suirbhé, creideann múinteoirí go dlúth gur cheart líon na sraithphictiúr a ísliú ó 20 sraithphictiúr go 10 sraithphictiúr. Tá sé aitheanta go bhfuil fadhb le líon na sraithphictiúr le fada, tá sé in am gníomhú ar an taighde atá déanta agus beart a dhéanamh láithreach.

An Gréasán welcomes the announcement that the plan to move Leaving Certificate Paper 1 to 5th Year will not proceed as planned.

Attached are the results of a survey conducted with Irish teachers, that clearly shows that teachers are against the plan that was mooted: Suirbhé – Páipéar 1 na hArdteiste

We believe that this plan should now be completely scrapped. Instead we believe that a comprehensive policy for the teaching of Irish from pre-school to third level should be developed to improve the system for the teaching and learning of Irish. We should focus our efforts on developing new specifications that will improve the learning of Irish based on this policy.

In the interim, as the survey indicates, teachers firmly believe that the number of sraithphictiúir should be reduced from 20 sraithphictiúr to 10 sraithphictiúr. It is widely recognised that there is a problem with the number of sraithphictiúir, it is time to act on the research that has been conducted and to make changes in relation to this immediately.
